Continuing success of HCC results in creation of new team

It's been another good year for Hackney Chess Club and the AGM captured the mood of success with an important decision to create a third team in the London Chess League. The new team, made up mainly of players graded 110 or below, will play in Division Four and will be captained by Mark Rivlin who hands the Division 3 captaincy baton to Shaun Tracey. Bob Eames will continue to run the Division 1 team.

The club enjoyed great success in the Middlesex League with Pepe Vives' second team winning the Division 2 title and in doing so joining the club's first team (to be led by Ed Lee in 2009-10) in the top division.

In the National Club championship, Shaun Tracey's Under 100 team is in the July final, hopefully to be joined by Mark Rivlin's Under 125 team who play in the semi final next week.

In the 4NCL, Frank Chin's team just missed out on promotion to Division 2.

The following appointments were agreed at the AGM:

London League Div 1: Captain; Bob Eames
London League Div 3: Captain; Shaun Tracey
London League Div 4: Captain; Mark Rivlin
Middlesex League Div 1: Captain; Ed Lee
Middlesex League Div 1 (second team): Captain; Pepe Vives

Chairman: Jonny Tennyson
Secretary: (TBC)
Treasurer: Frank Chin

Finally, a huge 'well done' to Shaun Tracey whose brilliant season across the board was confirmed with the award of the club Rose Bowl for best performing Hackney Chess Club player.

The club is really keen to welcome new players of all ages and standards. The creation of the new London League team will give lower level players the opportunity to play regular competitive chess. So whether you are a budding Bobby Fischer or know your way round the board (and the bar) you'll feel at home in one of the friendliest clubs in London. We also have room in the first team for higher graded players.

We will continue to meet every Saturday evening for beer and blitz at the Rochester Castle pub on Stoke Newington High St and our home games in the Middlesex League will continue to be played at The Prince on Kynaston Road N16 (thanks again to the pub for their hospitality).
