Hastings (1.5) - (3.5) Hackney
Hackney beat Hastings & St Leonards with some ease to move on to the next round of the National Club Major. Jon Benyunes clinched the win with his trademark draw offer in a no-risk won position. Pepe won with a nice sacrificial attack against a higher rated junior. Both Martin & Frank were better but ended drawn. Evidently having pictures of eminent grandmasters from the 1890s on their club walls didn't intimidate the Hackney boys as much they perhaps hoped.
Cosham (2) - (3) Hackney
We scraped to a 3-2 win against Cosham on 10 February largely due to Peter Burgoyne and Jonathan Benyunes' wins so Hackney march on to the second round of the National Club Major Championship. This is where it gets serious as a loss would mean we'd be out of the competition.
